Rolling Mill was plague with a troublesome rod retention system comprising of a solenoid actuated spring return using grease-charged hydraulic nuts. Retained rod loads were lost due to frequent hydraulic nut o-ring extrusions and numerous solenoid electrical problems. Additional hydraulic ram and wedge retaining arrangement was required.
Solution:
Original equipment replaced with Riverhawk Hydraulic Nuts, simplifying the bi-monthly roll change out process. Rod loads were retained by the hydraulic nut retaining ring after the hydraulic fluid was drained from the load cell. The original hydraulic ram and wedge retaining system was eliminated.
